Our Activities
Each year we aim to offer 120 children from the London borough of Barnet (and
surrounding areas) ranging in age from 8 to 16, meaningful weekly leisure activities in a
culturally appropriate environment. Opportunities offered include music, dance, art, drama, swimming, discussion groups, homework and breakfast clubs, therapy, holiday excursions and trips. Children meet on every weekend and sometimes during the week at lunch break or after school.
Our programmes reflect the requests of our users and we always welcome suggestions. We aim to assist children coming from large or low-income families, as well as those who struggle academically. At GYAB, children learn to form healthy relationships with caring volunteers, and delight in a positive social setting from which they garner the skills and moral support to overcome their daily struggles. Our long-term goal could be said to improve our children’s confidence and emotional wellbeing in order to enable them to develop into healthy, stable adults who will be contributing members of society.
